Life List

Though not always written, I’ve always kept a bit of a list of the cool things I want to do. Passively, I’ve checked some things off over the years but at times I’ve been so focused on work and projects that that list took a back seat. A while back I came across the “Life List” on my buddy Trevor Mauch’s blog.  This inspiration lead me to create this page: a written list of the things for which I’d like to make time, a bucket list of sorts. I like the name “Life List” over bucket list because it’s a reminder for me to live life.

I’ll add to this list from time to time as I’m inspired and reviewing will always be a reminder for me to collect experiences, not things. I hope you’re inspired as I’ve been.

  1. Learn to read and speak another language… probably Hebrew. (Currently working on Italian for fun but not taking it very seriously.)
  2. Jump out of a plane (done)
  3. Live on a boat (done… if Lake Powell for a week counts)
  4. Run a half marathon (done)
  5. Build a house in a third world country, likely with an organized charity
  6. Ride the MS150, a 150 mile bike race in Texas
  7. Run a marathon
  8. Sail for over a month, probably from N.E. USA or Southern California to Brazil and back
  9. Compete in a shooting competition (trap and sniper)
  10. Compete in an archery competition
  11. Be behind the wheel of a car going from 0-200 MPH
  12. Live on a pretty remote island for a month
  13. Take vocal lessons and learn to sing
  14. Write a book on my experiences in real estate and business
  15. Travel the country in an RV, i.e. spend 1 year + exploring and working from the road
  16. Consistently read 12 books a year until I die, audio books count
  17. Wake up at sunrise and turn off electronics (work related) at sundown for a whole year
  18. Walk/run part of the great wall of China
  19. Donate $1,000,000 to charity before I retire or turn 50, whichever comes first
  20. Meet Howard Stern
  21. Speak publicly in front of at least 1,000 people. I spoke in front of thousands in college once, but I was so nervous that I remember very little from the experience.
  22. Create a product that sells 10,000 units.
  23. Learn to fly. I’m half way through my helicopter pilot’s license. Someday I’d like to fly planes also.
  24. Do “well-enough” in business (and in networking) to organize a party or fundraiser or both and convince Questlove and The Roots to come play.
